Subterranean Feminine
Earthy-Atmospheric Series · 2025
51 H × 154 W × 5 D cm | Acrylic and mixed media | Original artwork · Stretched · Unframed
Subterranean Feminine sets a concentrated passage of warmth within a cooler, fragmented field. The title suggests an underlying presence, while the painting holds its tension in colour and texture rather than in a depicted figure.
Ochre and rust-red marks cross blue, grey and pale passages. Their irregular meeting gives the composition a sense of pressure beneath the surface: warmer colour appears at an opening, while surrounding marks interrupt its continuity.
From across a room, the warm passage draws the eye along the horizontal format. At closer range, smaller contrasts, interruptions and shifts in density become more visible, moving attention from the overall balance towards the marks that keep the surface active.
FOR ARCHITECTS & INTERIOR DESIGNERS:
At 51 × 154 cm, Subterranean Feminine has a low, elongated horizontal format suited to spaces where a long wall proportion is available without requiring monumental height. Its scale works particularly well in residential, hospitality, wellness and professional interiors, including placement above furniture or within circulation areas.
As a stretched, unframed work, it can be installed as presented or framed according to the requirements of the project. Sonia Jeronimo Studio can provide technical information regarding placement, framing, lighting, delivery and installation.

PHOTOGRAPHY & COLOUR ACCURACY:
The artwork contains ochre, rust-red, blue, grey and pale passages. Their relationships shift according to the quality, temperature and direction of the light.
Under diffused natural daylight, the separation between warmer and cooler passages becomes more visible and smaller tonal contrasts are easier to distinguish. Under warm artificial light, ochre and rust-red areas gain greater density while cooler blue and grey passages become more subdued. Directional or lateral light reveals surface interruptions, layering and subtle variations in reflectivity.
Digital photography cannot reproduce the full chromatic range and material complexity of the original work. Screen calibration, white balance, ambient light, image compression and online colour profiles may alter the relationship between warmer and cooler passages. Online and printed images are therefore representative only; the original artwork remains the definitive reference for colour, surface, scale and tonal depth.
