The artist

From leadership
to material practice.

After three decades building companies and leading complex structures in the technology sector, I transferred into painting an intelligence of scale, decision, risk, matter and construction.

My work grows from this passage between leadership, body, territory and reconstruction. Through abstraction, pressure and change become decisions about colour, rhythm and surface.

I work from Serra da Estrela, Portugal, developing large- and medium-scale paintings for collectors and for spaces where a work can be encountered at different distances and in changing light.

Territory

The mountain
as a working source.

The rivers, sediments and weathered surfaces of Serra da Estrela inform how I build a painting. Sand and mineral matter enter the surface as physical material, carrying the character of the place in which I work.

Local sources include the Seia River and Lagoa Comprida. In selected recent works, natural palm fibres from Cabo Verde extend this material vocabulary.

The result remains abstract. Erosion, absorption, accumulation and exposure become operations within the painting.
