Elsewhere it Rains
Earthy-Atmospheric Series · 2025
120 H × 120 W × 5 D cm | Mixed media on canvas | Original artwork · Stretched · Unframed
Elsewhere it Rains brings downward movement into contact with a denser lower field. Its title suggests rain and distance, yet the painting remains an arrangement of marks, intervals and accumulated colour rather than a view of weather.
Slender brown and ochre traces descend through a pale ground towards warmer, darker passages below. The contrast between these vertical lines and the gathering of colour at their base gives the surface a rhythm of falling and settling.
From across a room, the repeated traces establish the painting’s overall cadence. At closer range, their uneven spacing, tonal differences and changes in material density open quieter intervals within a surface that first appears continuous.
FOR ARCHITECTS & INTERIOR DESIGNERS:
At 120 × 120 cm, Elsewhere it Rains offers a substantial square presence suited to residential, hospitality, wellness and professional interiors. Its balanced format allows the work to hold a wall independently while the vertical rhythm of the marks introduces movement without overwhelming the surrounding architecture.
As a stretched, unframed canvas, the work can be installed as presented or framed according to the requirements of the project. Sonia Jeronimo Studio can provide technical information regarding placement, framing, lighting, delivery and installation.

PHOTOGRAPHY & COLOUR ACCURACY:
The artwork contains a restrained range of pale neutral tones, brown, ochre and darker earthy passages. These relationships shift according to the quality, temperature and direction of the light.
Under diffused natural daylight, the separation between the descending traces, pale ground and denser lower field becomes more visible. Under warm artificial light, the ochre and darker passages gain greater density and the lower area can appear more concentrated. Directional or lateral light reveals surface variation, layering and subtle changes in reflectivity.
Digital photography cannot reproduce the full tonal depth and material variation of the original work. Screen calibration, white balance, ambient light and image compression may alter the balance between pale and warmer passages. Online and printed images are therefore representative only; the original artwork remains the definitive reference for colour, surface, scale and tonal depth.
